Latch Little Baby

Aracelis Pisano, IBCLC -Lactation Consultant

My Own Personal Journey

Within the first 24 hours of my first son’s birth in 2014, I was told I would never be able to breastfeed.  I was heartbroken and discouraged leaving the hospital with the idea that I would not be able to provide my son with what I truly felt was the perfect start to his life. A few days later, we visited an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) who changed our lives forever. Within moments, my son was latched and transferring milk efficiently.  We went on to have a beautiful nursing journey which gave me the confidence to nurse my second son, who was tongue and lip tied.

I realized I wanted to help other parents who were struggling at this very delicate time in their lives, just like I did. I obtained my certification as a Certified Lactation Counselor in 2016. Immediately after that, I joined La Leche League and became accredited as a Leader. Helping parents at these meetings validated that my passion for breastfeeding was not just a passing moment. It was during this time that I decided to go back to school to complete the prerequisites needed to sit for the IBCLC exam. In 2019, I became a Board Certified Lactation Consultant.

Testimonials

I gave birth to my first child summer 2018. Although I accepted the fact that not everything would go as planned, the one plan I refused to stray from was exclusively breastfeeding. Aracelis helped prepare me for what to expect before my baby was born. She helped me to cope with the initial discomfort, she helped me to try new positions that would allow both my baby and I to nurse more comfortably. She helped me to grow more comfortable nursing in public, she helped me to not feel defeated when my son went through a phase of nursing basically 24/7. She helped me to devise a pumping plan at the conclusion of my maternity leave, and helped me to revise that plan when I started a new job and my schedule changed. Aracelis has been a huge support system during my breastfeeding journey and I've trusted her opinion from day one. Her deep knowledge of the subject stems further than the hours upon hours she spent studying. Her true knowledge comes from first hand experience, and I often appreciated her offering personal examples, reassuring me that although everyone's breastfeeding journey is not the same, everyone does encounter challenges and rewards. Aracelis helped me to deal with the intense burden I felt when the demands of my job no longer allowed me to supply the amount of breast milk for my 1 year old son that I felt was right. Aracelis assured me that transitioning from breastfeeding would be fine, and she supplied me with the tools I needed to do what was best for my baby. I recall calling and texting Aracelis at all hours of the day when I needed answers or just encouragement, and she was always so responsive and supportive. Aracelis has truly been a very inspirational mother figure and educator. I know any parent who has the privilege to interact with Aracelis will be forever grateful. I sure am!
